Youth Brass Bands Blow Us Away with Talent

28th July 2010

The Allianz Musical Insurance Brass Day, in Birmingham, was a huge success with 22 Brass Bands and 980 children performing on the day.

The UK’s leading musical insurance provider, Allianz Musical Insurance, sponsored the Brass Day at the National Festival of Music for Youth, earlier this month, which was held at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The day was part of the seven-day Music For Youth National Festival, where over 17,000 of the country’s most exciting young performers came together to display their musical talent.

Allianz Musical Insurance Brass Day featured talented young musicians aged 7-21 showcasing their musical skills in front of 2,000 spectators.

Throughout the day there was an array of impressive musical talent on display and a number of bands that really stood out. The Wardle School Brass Band, Smithills School Senior Brass Band, Tapton School Band, Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band, Northamptonshire Youth Brass Band, Bare Trees Community Band and Youth Brass 200 all received the prestigious Allianz Musical Insurance School Brass Band Award for their excellence in performance, mature sound and preparation.

“It was an incredible day! We are delighted that Allianz Musical Insurance was able to support the young brass musicians performing at the National Festival,” says Lincoln Abbotts, Chief Executive of Music for Youth. “The Festival is one of the world's greatest youth music festivals which demonstrates the breadth, innovation and pure talent that exists within young people’s music making in the UK”.

Alison Andrew, Allianz Musical Insurance Marketing Manager, said; “We are thrilled to have supported brass day at the UK’s most exciting youth music festival. Music for Youth does a fantastic job across the UK encouraging young people to play musical instruments and it’s great to be part of showcasing our brass stars of the future.”

The 2010 Festival was attended by over 10,000 spectators, and involved 14,000 instrumentalists, 3,000 singers, 260 conductors, 80 new commissions, 23 Music Mentors, 2,161 bows, 2,248 reeds, 5,661 mouthpieces and 2,725 bottles of valve oil.
